The long awaited film “Galatea” has dropped a poster and it’s looking great! This sci-fi drama is set in a near future South Korea where human-like AIs coexist with humans, and explores the complexities and ethics of such a society.

“Galatea” is the sequel to director Hwang Seung Jae’s well received film “The Interviewees” which won the Grand Prize (Daesang) in the Video Category at 8th SF Awards in 2021. The new film promises to be a hyper realistic depiction of a future that’s relevant to today’s Korean society, not just a visual treat but also a commentary on the implications of technology in human life.

A Dystopian Aesthetic

The new main poster is full of dystopian vibes, with the cast’s faces against the backdrop of a worn out apartment building. The tagline “The future has already been created!” implies that the movie will deal with events that are not only speculative but also prophetic.

At the center of the story is Lee Yo Won who plays a character who will do everything to protect an abandoned AI pet left by its human owners. She’s pulling a suitcase in the poster, signifying her journey to the unknown. Behind her is SF9’s Chani as Beom Soo, a son who comes back home after 100 years and adds more emotional depth to the story. Lee Joo Shil plays his mother who has waited for centuries with hope unwavering, her hair now white from years of waiting.

Themes of Time and Relationships

The cast also includes Oh Hee Joon as Nam Gyu B, a man weighed down by a mortgage that has been running for centuries, the film explores time and its effects on human life. Baek Soo Jang reunites with a long lost love through AI, further highlighting the theme of relationships in a tech world. Rising star Lee Jae Yi is also part of the cast and will bring a fresh energy to the film.

Questions of Identity and Humanity

Among the ensemble Jung Kyung Ho stands out as the only one looking directly at his AI, raising questions about identity and humanity. This visual choice makes the viewer wonder which one is human and which is artificial, the central theme of the film. Jo Jae Yoon is seen holding a shotgun and playfully guarding the title of the film, meaning there will be a mix of tension and humor in the narrative. Kim Kang Hyun is known for his wit and will bring his charm to the film.

Anticipation Builds for a Thought-Provoking Experience

As “Galatea” is about to be released, the anticipation is building up for the AI and humanity theme, it will be a visually stunning and intellectually stimulating film.
